The Children's Entertainment Awards not only honored -- and encouraged -- the best in children's entertainment, but offered an "evergreen" family television program for sponsors and audiences around the world.

Understanding that families are not interested in watching an evening of adults opening envelopes, the show was to be a musical variety show saluting that year's honorees.
